Mandala Systems Limited was founded in 1977 by a research scientist and a mathematician. King Butler, a quantitative entomologist, and Gordon Brown, a biometrician, had collaborated on the development of a comprehensive statistical analysis system for the federal government, and decided to take their talents to the private sector. King and Gordon felt the name Mandala (pronounced man/dalah) Systems fit with their universal approach to providing entire solutions. Mandala is a name used to describe a ritualistic geometric design symbolic of the universe, often used as an aid to meditation.

The company’s first product was a comprehensive suite of software for Canadian licensees of McDonald’s. This rapidly netted Mandala Systems a network of customers from Newfoundland to Alberta. Additional specialized software products followed for customers in a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, retail, transportation, fish processing, and travel. More recent software systems include a suite of software for public housing, used by provincial agencies throughout Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan, and a new system for fuel oil distribution.

Mandala continues to invest in Research and Development to enhance and expand its proprietary software offerings, and provide personalized solutions to customers who need IT solutions. Solutions that reflect the uniqueness of their business. For companies that are adequately served by packaged or third-party software, Mandala provides ‘industry standard’ solutions based on Windows server platforms.
